Manchester City's manager Expresses Regret Over Broadcast Crew Incident Following Defeat to Newcastle

Pep Guardiola has admitted feeling "shame" after a confrontation with a camera operator subsequent to Manchester City's loss away to the Magpies on Saturday.

At full time, an emotional Guardiola stepped onto the field and engaged in intense talks with match official Sam Barrott and Magpies midfielder Bruno Guimarães, while also handling the broadcast crew's equipment.

"I said sorry," Guardiola stated. "I feel embarrassed, ashamed, when I see it. It's not acceptable. I apologised after one second to the operator. I am who I am. After 1,000 games I'm far from perfect, I make huge mistakes."

"One thing is certain, I stand by my team and club, that’s for sure. Why I want to defend my team is no doubt – because from my experience to clinch the title we have to do 100 points, 98 points, or we fall short."

City's Position and Guardiola's Assessment

The team sits in third and are seven behind the Gunners after what was their fourth league defeat of the season. "Four defeats in twelve matches we have to improve a lot," Guardiola admitted. "Technically, we can still achieve all."

The manager was asked if this meant the quadruple was a realistic aim, he responded: "As a seasoned reporter, did you hear my talk about the quadruple in December when we won the quadruple? Never."

Exchange with Bruno

Regarding his confrontation with the Newcastle player, Guardiola said: "We have known Bruno a long time and post-match, even at the Etihad, we talk in the tunnel. Our paths always cross and I always have a good relationship. I enjoy it. I’m an emotional guy, I love to talk and gesticulate."

He wouldn't mind should a rival coach spoke to his players immediately after a game. "No - as long as you talk with respect like I always have done, it’s not a problem," he noted, mentioning the referee. "He was part of it throughout the match, constantly. Goodness, very much so."

Controversial Decisions

City were unhappy that the officials did not award City a penalty on a Schär tackle on Phil Foden, and doubted Bruno's positioning when Harvey Barnes scored Newcastle’s 70th-minute winner. Pictures published later indicate the Brazilian was onside.

Upcoming Milestone

Guardiola will take charge his century in Europe against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday. "It’s quite good, it means that every season we have been there," he said.

City have 10 points from four matches in the group, and Leverkusen hold five.
